Dr Brodie Paterson

Dr Brodie Paterson is senior lecturer at the University of Stirling in Scotland with degrees in psychology, education, social policy and sociology. He has published more than 100 articles, book chapters and research papers on workplace violence in education, health and social care as a clinical, social and political problem.

He conducted the first UK study evaluating the effectiveness of training healthcare staff in the prevention and management of aggression; wrote the first UK guidelines on purchasing training in the prevention and management of aggression; organised the first UK conference on workplace violence; undertook seminal UK research on restraint related deaths; and organised the first and second international conferences on restraint reduction.

He presently chairs the European Network for Training in the Management of Aggression which has recently produced a charter for trainers identifying best practice in training.
