Law Relating to the Use of Force

Manual & Legal Updater Service

The law relating to the use of force is complex and covers many different situations. These situations might include using force:

  • to defend oneself
  • in the defence of another person
  • to prevent a crime
  • to defend one’s property
  • to effect or assist in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large
  • to restrain an individual for their own good
The law in relation to these issues is covered by statute and common law and is subject to frequent change. Professionals have a continuing responsibility to keep themselves up-to-date with any changes that may affect their area of practice.

The BSDGB provides a legal updater service where subscribers will receive a copy of the manual “Law and Legislation” and will be alerted to any new significant developments (changes to legislation and new cases) pertaining to the law of self defence and use of force.

The cost of the manual and 12 months updater service is £385.00 per annum. Each year, the manual will be updated and a new copy sent to subscribers together with updates for that year.

To subscribe, please send a cheque for £385.00, payable to the British Self Defence Governing Body, to:

British Self Defence Governing Body, PO Box 237, WIRRAL, CH31 9FL. Please ensure that you provide your email address for your subscription.
